Inga Hawkins, BS, CSCS, NSPA
Inga Hawkins holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise and Sports Science with a minor in Coaching from Frostburg State University and is a Certified Conditioning Specialist (CCS) through the National Strength Professionals Association (NSPA). Inga has 10 years of experience as an Assistant High School Cross Country and Track and Field Coach at Catoctin High School, 15 years of experience as a National Strength Professionals Association (NSPA) Certified Conditioning Specialist (CCS) and 12 years of experience as a Personal Trainer. Inga has experience working with individuals and in group settings with runners of all ages and fitness levels. She has many years of experience developing workouts and running plans for individuals with injuries, restrictive access to training equipment, constantly alternating work schedules (Law Enforcement, Fire and Rescue and Medical personnel) and those trying to find time and motivation to train in today’s “Always on the Go” lifestyle. Inga recently joined the team at Two Rivers Treads after spending the past three years home with her two boys Arkell and Kai.
Inga ran four years competitively in college where she earned Athlete of the Week, Mason Dixon All-Conference Honors and Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) ALL-Conference Honors. After college, Inga found that she had a passion for long-distance running when she was no longer restricted to the much shorter race-oriented training distances. She ran her first ultra-marathon in 2004 prior to ever running a standard marathon and is now a 13-time finisher in the JFK 50-miler and looking forward to her 14thfinish in 2019. She was the only female out of ten to finish the Massanutten Mountain Trails (MMT) 100-miler in 2008. Inga runs to raise money and awareness and has run in the Marine Corp Marathon, raising donations for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Tom’s Run, a 200-mile run/bike team race in honor of U.S. Coast Guard, CW4 Tom Brooks. She has also, run to raise money for individuals suffering from terminal diseases and local schools raising money for their students.
As a coach at Catoctin High School, Inga created and implemented a strength training and running program for middle and long-distance runners. Her training program was pivotal in the team earning their first 1-A Division Maryland State Cross Country Championship title in 2010. Inga would go on to coach them to three more titles after being moved up to the more competitive 2-A Division. While much of Inga’s success as a coach was due to her experience and expertise that she brought to the program, it was also due to a belief that a team could only be successful when everyone worked as a cohesive unit and didn’t just rely on the performance of its “superstars”. It wouldn’t matter whether a student had intentions to earn a scholarship, wanted to learn how to be a better runner or just get into better shape because Inga used an individual approach in achieving team success. She made so many lasting memories and lifelong connections with other coaches, student-athletes and their families and treasures each of them.
